Stop 27: Leavenworth, WA

It was a long, 211 mile drive from Coeur d' Alene to Leavenworth. The scenery along the way wasn't terribly exciting - miles and miles of wheat. We were very surprised to arrive in Leavenworth to find trees and water. It's very pretty here.

We had thought about driving up to Grand Coulee Dam while we're here but it's 90 miles each way and most of it is back along the way that we've already been. The exploration of Leavenworth was more to our tastes. Leavenworth is a very cute replica of a Bavarian town.

Once we we're set up in our campsite, we walked down to the Wenatchee River.

Kristen in front of 2 trees that will soon be in the river.

Took this picture to give a sense of how high the water is. There are at least 2 trees in this picture that should be high and dry.

The next morning, we headed to downtown Leavenworth. Once we were parked, we took about a 2 mile hike through the Waterfront Park along the Wenatchee River.

Looking downstream.

Looking upstream.

Looking upstream again with some fishermen's boats anchored on the river.

After our hike, we explored the downtown area and had some wonderful savory crepes for lunch. I wanted schweineschnitzel but Kristen couldn't be budged. The crepes were delicious.

Part of the main street.
Tomorrow, we're off for Concrete, WA which, in spite of its unfortunate name, is the gateway to Northern Cascades National Park.
